Hunting at the ORP

I’ve had another great hunt at the Ohoopee River Plantation.  I left Wisconsin at 2am on Friday morning to fly to Savannah, GA.  Actually arrived early in the day at around 11:30.  After spending a good afternoon with family, I headed out to Swainsboro around 9pm. Went deer hunting in the Saturday morning and saw a few deer.  That afternoon, I went duck hunting for the first time.  As the ducks started flying in, I was in waders out in the middle of the lake. I shot a lot of shells, but ended up dropping a duck as well.  It was a lot of fun, I can see how it’s addicting.

Hunting Log 22.12.2007

I drove to Swainsboro GA from Savannah last night. It’s less than 2 hours from Savannah. I got to the Ohoopee River Plantation around 5:30 and met up with my guide Wade Thompson.  I found Wade a little ways inside the gate.He was sitting in a big Caterpiller machine with lights shining on his truck.  Turns out he parked next to the woods and got out of his truck to wait for me. About 30 seconds after he got out of his 2007 Limited Edition Ford truck, a giant dead pine fell right across the hood and roof. Smashed the roof all the way down to the headrest of the driver’s seat.  After the deputy got there, Wade took me to my stand. Wade even went hunting himself after the deputy left. I got to the blind about 6 am and it started to get light around 7.  Around 7:05 I stuck my head out the window of the blind looking to the left and saw a doe looking at me.  A few minutes later I looked to my right and saw a couple of deer shaped blobs at the end of the field. Thought one might be a buck, but they both turned out to be does. I took some pretty good video footage of them Here .I didn’t see anything else that morning and got off the stand around 10:30.  We did a lot of walking in the afternoon and saw some great deer sign and beautiful woods.  I’d move here in a skinny minute.  Incidently, my southern comes back quick in the woods.

Playing in the snow in Wisconsin

When I knew we were moving to the country, I bought a nice used ATV.  It came with a 60 inch snowblade.  When we came back from a hunting trip to southern IL, we had 10 inches of snow in the driveway.  It was my first time plowing snow with the ATV. What a blast.  Here’s a little footage – not for the faint of download speed. Snow Blowing

What’s the weather like here???

I’ve recently received a personal weather station for Christmas.  It does all sorts of cool things, but one thing it does is it let’s me port the information to the internet.  If you go to http://www.jcartergroup.com/weather  , you’ll see my own personal weather information for Roberts, WI.  In particular, in my back yard.  When I get a chance, I’ll stick it on my page here.
